After a 27-year career teaching biology at Northern State University, I am now retired. I live in Northfield, Minnesota, where I teach a fully accredited

on-line ornithology course,

band birds and offer regional ecotours and talks.

I enjoy photography and other Arts. Click here to see three of my photographs from the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota. I also have a photographic lifelist of

North American birds and wildflowers.

I earned my Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in Zoology and Physiology. During our graduate work in Peru, my wife Erika and I discovered a new bird,

Nephalornis oneillii (left)

and had a bird named after us, Pipreola riefferi tallmanarum (right).
